For the past 23 years I’ve always ended January well because the 31st is my parents’ anniversary. And yes, they’re not the type of couple who leaves their children out of the celebration, so me and my brother have always been in the picture. According to my dad, me and Nikho are proof of how far they’ve gotten as a couple so we gotta be with them. =))
For their anniversary night this year, we had a nice dinner at Shakey’s, Malate - where it always felt like home and where, by the way, at 1:00 in the morning - “SWEET” made a surprise appearance! We whoa’ed and wowed at fabness that she is - that was my birthday host for 3 years I’m talking about people - and she even stayed at our table until her boyfriend arrived and took her away. =))
I LOVE MY PARENTS. I used to think about their relationship as flawless but let’s face it, at some point, some unfortunate shit does happen. Shit that almost sent me jumping off a cliff. Echos. Just got me running out the highway, screaming and crying, ruining my pair of Charles & Keith heels. (=_+) But then I thought about it - 23 years of awesome, a bro of a brother, a wall of family pictures, Peking Duck dinners, weekend shopping sprees and my credit cards that they pay for me? I mean, come on. I wouldn’t wanna mess with that.
No. Haha. Just kidding people. :))
But seriously speaking. The pull that my family have to each other - It’s ineffable. You mess with one, you mess with the whole group. We’re a package. No amount of embarrassment, failures, distance, money issues or even badly cooked dinner could ever take us down. That’s how tight our bond is. A MIGHTY BOND. =))
So here’s to the couple who gives me a reason to still believe in TRUE LOVE…

24 years later and Papa still serenades Mama with his guitar, with the same cheesy love song:
